The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to suspend the island-wide strike that was scheduled to begin today (11).

The trade union action, set to start at 8.00 a.m., was planned over several demands, including concerns regarding the implementation of doctors’ transfers.

Following discussions with Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, the GMOA’s Executive Committee announced the temporary suspension of the strike, citing “positive outcomes” from the meeting.

The association stated that it will closely monitor developments before making further decisions. As part of ongoing trade union measures, the GMOA advised Registered House Officers (RHOs) not to apply for current post-intern vacancies, claiming the “arbitrarily published” vacancy list is subject to amendment.
