Speaker Asoka Ranwala might announce his resignation from his post today (13 December), Asian Mirror learns.

It is reported that following public outcry regarding his educational qualifications, particularly the doctorate he claimed to possess, the government gave him a deadline to provide the necessary evidence to substantiate his claims.

The government holds the view that if the Speaker fails to do so, he must resign from his position. However, he is not expected to step down from his role as an MP.
