A manager of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency (SLFEA) has been arrested on suspicion of defrauding a youth of Rs 945,000 by promising employment in Romania.

According to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), the suspect was apprehended during a raid at the agency’s office in Narahenpita.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a youth from the Bandarawela area, who alleged that the suspect had promised him a job as a factory assistant in Romania and, since 2023, had obtained the money in several instalments under false pretences.

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism. At the time of arrest, the suspect was serving as an Assistant Manager in the agency’s IT Division.

He is scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court today (13).
