The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has decided to file action against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody following corruption complaints over misappropriation of funds while serving at the Fertiliser Corporation in 2015, the Sunday Times reported.

If proceeded, Jayakody will be the first minister in the current government to face corruption charges.

The case will be filed in the High Court against the minister and two others over the alleged misappropriation of Rs 8 million.

Jayakody, who headed the tender board that awarded the disputed contract, came under scrutiny after concerns were raised about payment procedures and the placement of the bond.

The Bribery Commission resumed investigations in light of earlier probes into the matter. (Courtesy: Sunday Times)
