Former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon has been arrested by the CID a short while ago.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (20) rejected an anticipatory bail application filed by former IGP of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who sought an order preventing his arrest.

The anticipatory bail application, submitted through his attorneys, was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura this morning. After considering the submissions, the Magistrate rejected the relief sought by Tennakoon.

Deshabandu Tennakoon filed the application on 29 July, claiming that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was preparing to arrest him in connection with the 2022 attack on the Galle Face protest site. He argued that there was an intention to take him into custody over the incident.
