The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Niwunhellage Dona Nirodha Kalapni Niwunhella, who was found seriously injured at South Morgan Place in Riverside on the morning of 21 August. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Wales Police confirmed that Thisara Weragalage, a 37-year-old man known to the victim was arrested shortly after the incident on Seawall Road, Splott. He remains in custody as investigations continue.

Nirodha’s grieving family described her as a “cherished daughter, family member and dear friend to many,” adding that her kindness and warmth touched many lives.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Matthew Davies expressed his condolences and urged the public to come forward with any information. Detectives are particularly seeking CCTV or dashcam footage of a grey Ford Fiesta seen around South Morgan Place, Seawall Road, and nearby streets between 7.30am and 8.30am on the day of the murder.
