The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has addressed a letter to the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera, Maha Nayaka of the Asgiriya Chapter, expressing concern over what it described as the “persecution of war heroes.”

The letter, issued under the signature of SLPP General Secretary, Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, states that history has entrusted the party with the responsibility of standing for those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the motherland.

It further notes that this is a duty that cannot be abandoned.

The SLPP emphasised that, as both a political movement and a broad social force shaped by the people, the party is firmly committed to fulfilling this responsibility. In doing so, it respectfully seeks the blessings and supportive guidance of the Most Venerable Maha Sangha, led by the Maha Nayaka Thera.
