Former IGP Pujith Jayasundera Cleared in 2017 Elevator Threat Case

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundera, who had been on compulsory leave, was released from a long-pending case by the Fort Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.

Jayasundera was initially arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 1 October 2019 in connection with an incident at Police Headquarters in 2017, where he was accused of threatening an elevator operator. He was later released on bail. Jayasundera was on compulsory leave at the time he was arrested.
