A 32-year-old doctor attached to the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, who had been receiving treatment at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 14 days following a road accident, passed away on 1 September, Pelmadulla Police said.

The deceased has been identified as P. Madara Madhubhashini, a resident of Moragahayata Lane, Ratnapura, and the mother of one child.

The accident had occurred on 19 August when the doctor, returning home after duty, was travelling in a private passenger bus along the Madakalapuwa–Colombo main road near the Pelmadulla Police Station. The bus driver had reportedly applied sudden brakes to avoid a three-wheeler attempting to cross the road, causing the doctor to be thrown out of the bus door and fall onto the road.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital by Judicial Medical Officer P. M. Harindra Lakmina Tennakoon.
