The Western Province North Crimes Division has arrested another suspect in connection with the plot to assassinate underworld figure ‘Harak Kata,’ (Nadun Chinthaka) at the Colombo High Court complex.
Police said the latest suspect is the person who concealed a 3.8 mm firearm inside a camera used by a shooter posing as a journalist.
The suspect, a 47-year-old resident of Udumgampola, Dombawala, was taken into custody at his residence.
This arrest follows the detention of a driver attached to the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation on 2 September, who was also linked to the ‘Harak Kata’ assassination plot.
Investigations have revealed that the firearm and the camera had been given to the driver by an individual known as ‘Backhoe Saman,’ allegedly on the orders of underworld figure ‘Kehelbaddara Padme.’ The driver has reportedly told investigators that he later destroyed both the gun and the camera after the arrests were made.
