Thilan Rangana, President of SPORTSINFO will be part of the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards Nomination Panel. The awards are held in February every year.
The Laureus World Sports Awards celebrate the most outstanding men and women in the world of sport with their achievements over the past calendar year.
To find the winners, a nominating panel of the world’s leading sports editors, writers and broadcasters vote to create a shortlist of six nominees in five categories – Laureus World Female Player of the Year, Laureus World Female Player of the Year, Laureus World Team of the Year, Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year And Laureus World Comeback of the Year.
Members of the Laureus World Sports Academy then vote by secret ballot to select the final award winners. The Academy also has the power to award discretionary awards such as lifetime achievement, spirit of sportsmanship and exceptional achievement.
Since its inception in 2000, the annual awards ceremony celebrates the most outstanding men and women in the world of sports and the greatest achievements fans have admired throughout the years.
The Laureus movement got its memorable start with the speech of Nelson Mandela, who was named Laureus Patron.
Laureus Sport for Good uses the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage, proving that sport can change the world. Sport for Good now supports over 100 projects in 35 countries including Sri Lanka.
This year’s voting will take place between 20 and 29 November to create a truly global list of nominees recognizing the sporting achievements of 2024. This will be used to select the winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards in April 2025.
On April 22, Madrid will host the 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards, which honors the world’s best athletes in seven categories.
