The Department of Railways has suspended three employees following a collision between the engines of the ‘Rajarata Rejina’ and ‘Sagarika’ trains at the Beliatta Railway Station on Sunday, 15 December.

The incident occurred when the engine of the ‘Rajarata Rejina’, travelling from Beliatta to Anuradhapura, collided with the stationary ‘Sagarika’ train, which had stopped for an engine change. The collision caused significant damage to the ‘Sagarika’ train, leaving it non-operational on the morning of today (16 December).

An investigation into the incident was launched on Sunday (15 December), and Deputy General Manager of Railways N.J. Indipolage confirmed that three employees involved in the collision have been suspended.

To minimise disruptions, alternative trains have been deployed while the damaged trains remain out of service.
