Dr. Wickramaratne Tipped to Be the New Speaker

National People’s Power (NPP) MP Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne is expected to become the new Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament.

Dr. Wickramaratne contested the 2024 General Election from the Polonnaruwa District, securing 51,391 preferential votes.

An alumnus of Galamuna Maha Vidyalaya in Polonnaruwa and Dharmaraja Vidyalaya in Kandy, he holds an MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya, a Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety from the University of Colombo, and a Master of Science in Medical Administration, also from the University of Colombo.
