Sampath Manamperi, wanted in connection with the discovery of two containers suspected to contain chemicals used for producing crystal methamphetamine (ICE) in Middeniya, surrendered to the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court, today (17).

Earlier on 15 September, his lawyer informed the Court of Appeal that Sampath Manampperi was preparing to voluntarily present himself to the court. Following his surrender, the Court directed the Inspector General of Police to take all necessary measures to ensure his security. Investigating officers were instructed to be informed accordingly.

The incident involved the arrest of Sampath Manampperi’s brother, Piyal Manampperi, in connection with the hidden containers. Their father had also been taken into custody earlier but was released on bail.

Separately, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna recently took action to suspend Sampath Manampperi’s party membership in light of the investigation.
