Chairman of the Karandeniya Pradeshiya Sabha, Maheel Munasinghe, has passed away following a sudden medical emergency.
Reports say that he fell ill this morning (21) while engaging in his morning fitness routine and was rushed to the Karandeniya Borlanda Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Munasinghe, who was 47 at the time of his death, was elected Chairman of the Karandeniya Pradeshiya Sabha at the last local government elections, representing the National People’s Power (NPP).
His death is suspected to have been caused by a heart attack. The post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted at the Elpitiya Base Hospital.
