The Indian owner of the ‘Galle Marvels’ team in the Lanka T10 Super League, Prem Thakur, has been further remanded until 18 December following his appearance before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (16).

The case was taken up before Colombo Magistrate Thilina Gamage, during which Thakur informed the court of his willingness to provide a confidential statement under Article 127 of the Code of Criminal Procedure regarding the allegations. The magistrate subsequently ordered him to be produced in court on 18 December to record the statement and extended his remand until that date.

Prem Thakur, a franchise owner in the tournament, was arrested on Thursday (12) at Pallekele Stadium in Kandy, where the tournament is being held. According to Sri Lanka Police, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a West Indies player on the Galle Marvels team, who had reportedly refused a match-fixing request made by Thakur.

Police confirmed that Thakur is the owner of the ‘Galle Marvels,’ one of six teams competing in the Lanka T10 Super League. The allegations have raised serious concerns about corruption within the tournament, currently underway in Sri Lanka.
