Urban Island has officially unveiled The Art Room, a dedicated space celebrating Sri Lanka’s emerging creative voices, with an inaugural exhibition by Sri Lankan-born, Italy-educated, AOD alumni artist Rochelle Fernando. The launch attracted dignitaries, members of Colombo’s creative community, and invited guests, all coming together to celebrate the new addition to the city’s artistic landscape.

Housed within Urban Island’s Colombo store, The Art Room offers an intimate and reflective environment where audiences can engage closely with contemporary art. The space will host exhibitions that spotlight Sri Lankan talent, highlighting the diversity, vibrancy, and international relevance of the island’s creative expression.

The inaugural exhibition features Fernando’s latest works, which blend architectural sensibilities with painterly expression. Her practice explores the interplay of texture, fluidity, and geometry, balancing emotion and structure to create compositions that feel both organic and intentional.

The Art Room will be open to the public from 19 to 28 September 2025, daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, allowing visitors to experience Fernando’s exhibition firsthand. Selected works are available for purchase at Urban Island’s Colombo store.
