Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Anuradhapura organiser Tissa Kuttiarachchi says he is committed to safeguarding the party’s policies just as King Devānampiyatissa protected Buddhism.
Speaking to party supporters in Perimiyankulama, Anuradhapura yesterday (29), Kuttiarachchi said the district was entrusted to him after Shehan Semasinghe and Chandrasena distanced themselves from the party following their association with Namal Rajapaksa.
“Some say no one has the right to ‘sell’ the name of Mahinda Rajapaksa or Namal Rajapaksa. That’s true—but it has been sold. Permits for sand, gravel, and clay have been taken under their names. Lands have been grabbed, and money made, whether good or bad. The Chandrasenas left us, Shehan Semasinghe left us, everyone left us. No one stayed to save Anuradhapura. At that moment, it was handed over to me,” he said.
Kuttiarachchi added that while some are dreaming of premierships, cabinet portfolios, or other positions when Namal Rajapaksa becomes President in 2029, he is not interested in titles or ranks.
“What matters to me is ensuring Namal Rajapaksa sits in the presidential chair in 2029. People from inside and outside may try to undermine me, but I will not abandon this cause,” he declared, adding that he now firmly controls Anuradhapura.
