The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that its final decision on the proposed electricity tariff revision will be made public on 14 October.

PUCSL Director Jayanath Herath confirmed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has proposed a 6.8 percent increase in tariffs.

Commenting on the proposal, Vice President of the CEB Technical Engineers and Supervisors Association, Nandana Udayakumara, said the tariff hike has become inevitable due to the authorities’ failure to effectively implement the Board’s restructuring programmes.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Electricity Consumers Association, Bandula Chandrasekara, claimed that the CEB board fee, currently around Rs. 1.5 million, is expected to surge to nearly Rs. 10 million following the divestiture of the CEB.
