The Supreme Court has dismissed, without hearing, the Fundamental Rights petitions filed by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa and another party, which sought to annul the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Sri Lanka for the implementation of the Digital ID project.
The petitions were taken up before a three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, today. The bench upheld the preliminary objections raised by the Attorney General, who argued that the petitions could not proceed. Consequently, the court ruled to dismiss the petitions without hearing them.
