Hollywood studio Universal Pictures said that the second part of the musical fantasy movie Wicked will be called Wicked: For Good.
The follow-up, directed by Jon M Chu, will be released in theaters on November 21, Wicked’s official X handle posted on Monday evening.
Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, is an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical of the same name, based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire.
Directed by Chu, the film was released in theaters worldwide in November and earned over 525 million rupees at the box office.
Wicked serves as a prequel and retelling of the 1939 film classic Wizard of Oz, based on the first book in the Oz novel series, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ by author L. Frank Baum.
Set in Oz before the events of ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, it follows Elphaba (Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West, and her friendship with her classmate Galinda (Grande), the future Glinda the Good.
The film stars Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Dr. Peter Dinklage as Dillamond.
