ACCA Sri Lanka 49th AGM Ushers in New Leadership Amid Strong Year of Progress

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) hosted its 49th Annual General Meeting at the Cinnamon Life in Colombo , bringing together members, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to celebrate a year of progress and welcome a dynamic new leadership team for the 2026/28 term. The event reflected ACCA Sri Lanka’s continued commitment to professional excellence and industry leadership within Sri Lanka’s finance and accounting sector.

Dr. Prasenna Balachandran, Vice President – Risk and Governance at Inqube Global, being inducted as Chairman of the ACCA Sri Lanka Member Network Panel.

Supporting the new leadership, Dr. Buddhi Pathiraja Associate Director – Strategy, Risk and Transactions at Deloitte Sri Lanka and Maldives; was appointed as Vice Chairperson with the newly appointed committee comprising a distinguished panel of professionals representing diverse expertise across the finance and corporate sectors. They include Ranjani Joseph, Chief Operating Officer, Head of Banking, and Head of Clients and Markets at KPMG, Mahesh Semage, Head of Group Corporate Finance at CBL, Prasanna Indrajith, Chief Financial Officer of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC and Chaminda De Silva, Executive Director SLASSCOM

The formal announcement of the ACCA Sri Lanka Member Network Panel election results presented by Baker & Tilly marked the official leadership transition for the 2026/28 term, with elected committee members including Shehan Fernando, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Business School, Rakitha Jayathunga, Attorney-at-Law and Corporate, Tax & Financial Consultant, Yasora Kodagoda, Finance Director – Group Finance at Capital Maharaja Group; and Sashi Jayakody, Board Director at Hayleys Aventura (Pvt) Ltd .

The Year in Review for 2025/26, presented by the ACCA Sri Lanka team, highlighted key milestones and strategic initiatives that strengthened ACCA’s national and regional presence. Among the notable highlights was the achievement of NVQ Level 6 equivalency recognition for the ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, a landmark accomplishment that enhances the qualification’s recognition and value in Sri Lanka.

Also highlighted was the introduction of a new Platinum Approved Learning Partner to Sri Lanka, alongside ACCA’s expanding footprint across regional cities including Batticaloa, Kandy, Matara, and Jaffna, reinforcing its commitment to accessibility and inclusivity in professional education.

Several stakeholder engagement initiatives included the Tutor and Employer Recognition Ceremony 2025, the launch of the IFRS Sinhala Chatbot initiative, and the South Asia cluster-level FINHACK 2026 university competition aimed at enhancing financial literacy and innovation among youth.
ACCA Sri Lanka further strengthened strategic partnerships and industry collaborations with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, NSBM Green University, KIU University, CA Sri Lanka, CMA Sri Lanka, AAT Sri Lanka, SLASSCOM, the Colombo Stock Exchange, and the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors.

ACCA Sri Lanka also successfully hosted the 21st ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards, endorsed by the Colombo Stock Exchange and the UN Global Compact, reaffirming its leadership in driving sustainability and corporate transparency.

The AGM highlighted ACCA Sri Lanka’s growing contribution towards national policy dialogue through initiatives such as the “Reform, Rebuild, Reshape – Resilient Sri Lanka” budget proposal report submitted to the Ministry of Finance, as well as the continued representation of Sri Lankan professionals at prestigious ACCA Global Forums.

With a membership base exceeding 1,300 members and a strong retention rate of 93.75%, ACCA Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its support for members, future professionals, and the wider business community.
