Two suspects, including the owner of an animal shelter in Katana, have been released on bail following their arrest over the alleged beating and killing of a dog at the facility.

Police said investigations were launched by the Katana Police following a complaint regarding the incident, which occurred on October 8.

Accordingly, the individual suspected of killing the dog and the owner of the animal shelter were arrested on October 27.

Police further stated that the suspect accused of killing the dog had previously been dismissed from employment at the shelter and had since returned to his hometown of Tangalle.

Meanwhile, after the Katana Police requested the shelter owner to appear at the police station, both suspects had subsequently surrendered to the police through an attorney.

The two suspects were produced before the Katana Magistrate’s Court on October 28.

After considering the facts, the court ordered their release on two personal bails of Rs. 200,000 each.

Police added that a future date has also been scheduled for the case to be taken up again.
