Former MP Ramanathan Archchuna has made a controversial political statement regarding Sri Lanka’s long-standing ethnic tensions, expressing confidence that a member of the Rajapaksa family could play a key role in resolving the issue.

Speaking publicly, Archchuna said he believed that a son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa — apparently referring to Namal Rajapaksa — would emerge as a major political figure in the 2029 election cycle.

He further claimed that the leadership of the next generation of the Rajapaksa family could bring a lasting resolution to the political and social divisions between the Sinhala and Tamil communities that have persisted for decades.

“I believe that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son will come forward in 2029 and bring the Tamil-Sinhala issue to an end,” Archchuna said.
