The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (17) recalled the arrest warrants issued against former Sri Lankan cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife, who had stood as sureties in the case involving an alleged USD 2 million bribe linked to SriLankan Airlines’ purchase of Airbus aircraft.
De Silva and his wife had stood as sureties for the wife of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena, a suspect in the case.
They had been ordered to appear before court yesterday (16) to show cause as to why their bail bonds should not be forfeited. However, they failed to appear.
Accordingly, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued warrants yesterday for their arrest and production before court.
Lawyers representing the couple filed a motion today and informed court that they had been unable to appear due to the funeral arrangements of De Silva’s mother.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the warrants to be recalled.
