Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thera, who arrived at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka’s Accident Service at around 8.30 p.m. yesterday (17), left about an hour later after declining further treatment, Hospital Director Dr. Sampath Indika Kumara said.
He said doctors had examined the monk and conducted several investigations, including ultrasound scans and blood tests, which showed no abnormalities at the time.
However, as the monk reported having sustained a blow to the head, doctors recommended admission to the accident ward for a comprehensive examination and observation.
“The doctors informed him of the need to admit him for further examination and observation. However, he said he did not require further treatment and reportedly left the hospital at around 9.30 p.m.,” Dr. Kumara said.
Meanwhile, Police Spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler said the monk had been taken to the National Hospital after slipping and falling at Viharamahadevi Park.
He said the monk had since received treatment and left the hospital.
The spokesman said police had observed false information circulating, particularly on social media, that could provoke the public and create unrest.
“No assault has been reported in connection with this incident so far,” he said, adding that police would take strict legal action against those spreading false information.
