A newly upgraded beauty salon at the Police Field Force Headquarters was officially declared open on 15 July 2025 under the patronage of the Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya. The initiative was led by the Police Seva Vanitha Unit with the aim of enhancing the welfare facilities available to police personnel and their families.

Previously functioning as a basic hair-cutting facility primarily for male officers, the premises have now been transformed into a fully equipped beauty salon offering a range of grooming and personal care services. The facility will now be open daily, providing affordable services not only to female police officers, but also to family members of police personnel and the general public.

The event was attended by Chairperson of the Police Seva Vanitha Unit, Nilmini Samarathunga — the spouse of the Acting IGP — and Sandeepha Sewmini, a member of the unit and the wife of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Support Services) M.D.R.S. Daminda. Also present was Senior Superintendent of Police Darshika Kumari, the officer in charge of the Field Force Headquarters, along with other senior officials.

Further enhancements to the salon will be carried out under the supervision and guidance of the Seva Vanitha Unit and relevant senior officers to ensure continued development.

A notable feature of the initiative is the opportunity offered to skilled female family members of police officers to work at the salon, providing them with an income-generating avenue. This aligns with the Acting IGP’s broader objective of empowering police families economically by offering such opportunities across the island.

The salon’s equipment was donated by the Believers Eastern Church, with additional improvements funded by the Police Seva Vanitha Unit.
