The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has acquitted former Mrs. World Caroline Jurie of charges arising from the forcible removal of Pushpika De Silva’s crown during the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 pageant.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama following a lengthy trial.

Delivering the verdict, the Chief Magistrate said the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt.

Jurie and model Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana had been named as defendants in the case. Kumarapathirana has since passed away, and her lawyer informed the court that her surety had confirmed that the death had been reported to the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court.

The Cinnamon Gardens Police filed the case over allegations that the crown worn by De Silva, who had been declared Mrs. Sri Lanka at the final held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo in 2021, was forcibly removed and that she was assaulted.
