The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an extensive investigation into a death threat against Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe, while his security has been strengthened with immediate effect.
The investigation was initiated on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), after the Magistrate informed him of a letter received by the Fort Magistrate’s Court threatening his life.
A team of CID officers recorded a detailed statement from the Magistrate yesterday (29). The IGP has also reportedly informed the Secretary to the President of the incident.
Following the threat, the IGP instructed the relevant authorities to immediately strengthen the Magistrate’s security.
Investigators are also reportedly examining how the letter the Magistrate sent to the IGP about the threats appeared on the YouTube channel “Eethalaya.”
Statements have already been recorded regarding the release of the letter online. Police said statements would also be obtained from those responsible for the YouTube channel that published the information. (Courtesy: Whatnews.lk)
