The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that investigations into the alleged ‘Krrish’ transaction involving MP Namal Rajapaksa have uncovered a property purchase in Sri Lanka worth Rs. 188 million.
The CID reported the developments to court on 9 July as part of its ongoing investigation into an alleged financial fraud linked to the lease of a 4.3-acre plot of land at Transworks Square in Colombo Fort to an Indian company.
According to reports submitted by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, substantial foreign remittances connected to the transaction had been transferred to bank accounts in Sri Lanka. These included €1.2 million from a German bank and €1,497,446 from an Australian bank.
The CID further informed court that the funds had allegedly been transferred under the guise of establishing hospital projects in the Hambantota and Nuwara Eliya districts.
