University of Colombo medical graduate Dr. Hashini Rangika Epa Arachchi has achieved an exceptional academic milestone, winning 16 of the 32 gold medals awarded for the MBBS programme at the University’s General Convocation 2025.
Her remarkable performance meant that she walked away with half of all the gold medals awarded for the MBBS programme, marking an outstanding conclusion to years of medical study.
Dr. Arachchi obtained First Class Honours in all five MBBS streams, including the Final MBBS examination, demonstrating consistently high academic performance throughout her undergraduate medical education.
Adding to the achievement, she ranked first island-wide in the common merit list of MBBS graduates for internship appointments.
She also served as the valedictorian of her batch and was awarded the prestigious Professor Tilak Hettiarachchy Award for Academic Excellence.
Her undergraduate achievements further included multiple Dean’s List Awards and the Mitsubishi UFJ Foundation Scholarship.
However, Dr. Arachchi’s academic journey has extended beyond examinations, rankings and gold medals.
She has also contributed to peer-reviewed medical research covering areas including antenatal anxiety, scrub typhus, dengue and interstitial lung disease, reflecting an interest in combining clinical medicine with scientific research.
The scale of her achievement at the General Convocation 2025 has placed her among the standout graduates of the University of Colombo’s Faculty of Medicine.
Securing First Class Honours across all five MBBS streams would itself mark an exceptional undergraduate career.
