Lanka Private Bus Owners Association chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said that private bus operators had previously submitted a proposal to introduce an upgraded bus service that operates strictly within seating capacity and accepts card payments exclusively.

He stated that the Metro bus service itself is not the primary issue, emphasizing that private operators had already proposed a similar modernised model to streamline public transportation. Wijeratne noted that the association’s proposed framework aimed to enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency by eliminating overcrowding and moving away from cash transactions.
