Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was remanded until 27 January after being presented before the Colombo Additional Magistrate today (25).

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Rajapaksa earlier today in Beliatta. Following his arrest, he recorded a statement with the CID before being brought before Aluthkade No. 5 Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeevani.

The arrest follows a directive from the Attorney General on 23 January, which stated there was sufficient evidence to implicate Rajapaksa in a land case involving a property valued at Rs 34 million.

The case also involves his grandmother, Daisy Forrest Wickremesinghe, popularly known as ‘Daisy Achchi,’ who is the primary suspect in the ongoing investigation concerning the Sirimal Pedesa property in Ratmalana.
