The Education Ministry’s ban on the promotion, sale and consumption of alcohol and drugs at school-related events will apply only to events held on school premises and will not cover big matches or events organised elsewhere, a Ministry official said.
“We cannot regulate what is consumed at big matches. The ban applies to the sale of alcohol at events held within school premises and its sale to students,” the official said.
The official added that events organised outside school premises by old boys’ associations and other groups would not be subject to the restrictions.
The Ministry announced last week that the promotion and use of alcohol and drugs would be strictly prohibited at events organised using a school crest.
Under Ministry Circular No. 2026/10, the Education Ministry Secretary has been authorised to prohibit any event at which such practices occur.
