Five people have reportedly died after a fire broke out at a helmet manufacturing factory in the Katuwana Industrial Zone in Homagama earlier today (21), according to Homagama Police.
Police said the blaze erupted at the factory and rapidly spread through the premises, while thick black smoke engulfed the surrounding area, prompting concern among nearby residents.
A firefighting unit from the Kotte Municipal Council was deployed to contain the fire, while emergency responders launched rescue operations at the site.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
