A five-member psychiatric panel appointed by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court has examined former intelligence chief Tuan Suresh Sallay, who is being held under a detention order in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks, according to a news report.
Sources at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka said the panel visited the hospital last week and examined Sallay from around 9 a.m. until the evening.
The five-member panel was appointed by Colombo Magistrate Pasan Amarasena.
Meanwhile, Dinamina reported that the panel has decided to meet members of Sallay’s family next week as part of its assessment.
Sallay underwent a minor cardiac procedure on July 23.
The psychiatric assessment is being carried out pursuant to an order issued by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
The panel is headed by Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist Dr. Susitha Mendis. Its other members are Consultant Psychiatrists Dr. Chiththahari Abeynayake, Dr. Dasanthi Akmeemana, Dr. Dulshika Amarasinghe Vaas and Dr. Vajira Dharmawardena.
