Hemas Surgicals & Diagnostics (Private) Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with Singapore-based biotechnology firm Credence Genomics Holdings Pte Ltd to introduce advanced AI-powered genomic diagnostic solutions to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
Under the partnership, Hemas will serve as the authorised distributor of Credence Genomics’ diagnostic portfolio, providing molecular diagnostic technologies to hospitals, laboratories and other healthcare providers.
By combining artificial intelligence with genomic sequencing, the technology is designed to enable faster and more accurate identification of infectious diseases. It can distinguish disease-causing microorganisms from harmless microbes while assessing antimicrobial resistance, providing clinicians with information to support treatment decisions.
The platform operates on two proprietary systems — AIoS® (Artificial Intelligence on Sequencing) and MMR™ (Machine Modelled Resistance) — which support pathogen detection and antimicrobial resistance analysis.
Its product portfolio includes Bactfast®, capable of detecting more than 22,000 bacteria; Fungifast®, covering more than 6,000 fungi; Virfast®, covering more than 9,000 DNA and RNA viruses; and dABST®, a predictive antimicrobial susceptibility test.
The solutions are intended to assist in diagnosing complex infections, mixed-pathogen cases and infections that are difficult to identify through conventional diagnostic methods. By combining pathogen detection and resistance analysis in a single test, the technology aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and shorten the time required to reach a definitive diagnosis.
The products are expected to be introduced to the Sri Lankan market following the necessary regulatory approvals and will subsequently be distributed to healthcare institutions through Hemas Surgicals & Diagnostics.
Representatives of the two companies said the partnership combines Credence Genomics’ expertise in AI-enabled genomic diagnostics with Hemas’ experience and established healthcare network in Sri Lanka.
