HNB General Insurance (HNBGI) has become the only general insurance company to be ranked among Sri Lanka’s 50 Best Workplaces™ for 2026, according to the latest list released by workplace culture authority Great Place To Work®.

The company was ranked 16th in the “Large Sized Workplaces” category, which comprises organisations with more than 500 employees.

The annual rankings are based on confidential employee surveys that assess workplace trust, leadership effectiveness, organisational values, innovation, and the overall employee experience.

According to Great Place To Work®, a best workplace is one where employees, regardless of their role, consistently enjoy a positive and inclusive work environment built on trust and meaningful values.

HNBGI said 95% of employees who participated in the anonymous survey expressed a highly positive view of the company’s workplace culture, a score the organisation described as particularly significant for a large workforce.

Commenting on the recognition, HNB General Insurance Executive Director and CEO Sithumina Jayasundara said the achievement reflected the company’s commitment to creating a workplace where employees could thrive.

“Transitioning from being Certified™ last year to becoming the only general insurance company recognised among Sri Lanka’s 50 Best Workplaces™ this year makes this achievement even more meaningful. This honour belongs entirely to our team,” he said.

Vice President and Head of Human Resources Malsha Munasinghe said the recognition validated the company’s long-term investment in employee development, wellbeing, and inclusive workplace initiatives.

Meanwhile, Great Place To Work® Sri Lanka CEO and Director Kshanika Ratnayaka commended HNB General Insurance for actively seeking employee feedback and fostering a workplace culture built on trust, noting that such recognition serves as an important indicator of organisational performance.
