Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said he has no intention of taking charge of the country once again, stressing that political power is never permanent.
Meeting a group of young people recently, Wickremesinghe said political movements must be prepared to relinquish power, work from the Opposition and seek a fresh mandate.
“I cannot take charge of this country again. Power does not remain with you forever. You must let go of power, remain in the Opposition and work to regain it,” he said.
Recalling the challenges he faced while attempting to steer Sri Lanka out of its economic crisis, Wickremesinghe advised the young people to commit themselves to rebuilding the country’s political movement from the Opposition.
