A leading insurance company in Sri Lanka has taken disciplinary action against an individual who made hateful remarks on social media about female doctors and women’s healthcare professionals.

In a statement issued by the company’s board of directors, it was clarified that the comments posted by the individual, an insurance agent affiliated with the company, were solely his personal views and did not reflect the company’s values or stance.

The controversy arose in the wake of a nationwide medical strike held yesterday (12) in response to the sexual harassment of a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital’s official residence. The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media regarding the strike and the medical profession.

Amid these discussions, he posted an inflammatory comment on his personal Facebook account, allegedly glorifying sexual violence against female doctors. His remarks were reportedly linked to a recent case of alleged medical malpractice.

After identifying the person as a freelance insurance agent associated with the company, the firm launched an internal inquiry. Following the investigation, the company confirmed that disciplinary action had been taken against him.
