It is learnt that the Colombo Mayor is deeply dissatisfied with the decision to not select his wife Feroza Muzammil to contest from Colombo District. In protest of the decision, Feroza Muzammil has already resigned from the National Executive Committee of the United National Party.

It is rumoured that the Colombo Mayor's alleged association with Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is one reason for the party's decision to axe Feroza Muzammil.
