MR & Co Comes On Bicycles For Budget Speech: Says Government Responsible For Fuel Crisis

November 09, 2017

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a group of Joint Opposition MPs arrived in Parliament on bicycles and bullock carts due to the fuel crisis crippling the country.

They said the government was responsible for the fuel crisis and the difficulties faced by people over the past week.

Sri Lanka ran into a shortage of petrol when the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation rejected a shipment of substandard petrol.

Interestingly, Rajapaksa too found himself at the centre of a major crisis during his presidency due to importation of substandard feul.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation had to pay compensation to the vehicle owners whose vehicles were damaged due to the use of substandard fuel.
