"Wasantha Senanayake Did Not Sign NCM Against MR" UNP: Harin Fernando Assures Vadiwel Suresh Still With UNP

November 21, 2018

The United National Party today announced that Wasantha Senanayake, who crossed back to the UPFA today, was not among the 122 MPs who signed the no-confidence motion against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Issuing a statement, Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva said the UNP's support-base in Parliament- the 122 MPs - remained the same despite Senanayake's latest move.

Taking a U-turn for the fourth time since the outbreak of the political crisis, Senanayake, who earlier pledged to resign from his Cabinet portfolio after re-joining the UNP, attended a Cabinet meeting, chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena.

Meanwhile, the UNP denied rumours that MP Vadiwel Suresh too had re-joined the Rajapaksa camp.

UNP Parliamentarian Harin Fernando said Suresh was with him today and assured that the Badulla district Parliamentarian had not attended any 'Cabinet meeting'.

Suresh was among the 122 MPs who signed the no-confidence motion against Rajapaksa.
