Ranil to lose parliamentary seat for first time in four-decade-long political Ccareer

UNP Leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is likely to lose his Parliamentary seat for the first time in his four-decade-long political career.

Wickremesinghe has never lost his parliamentary since 1977 — the year he first entered Parliament.

The UNP has failed to secure 5% of polled votes in many electorates in the Colombo district. A political party has to secure a minimum of 5% to gain a parliamentary seat from the district.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has comprehensively won the Colombo district while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, led by Sajith Premadasa, has become a distant second.

SJB Leader Sajith Premadsa too contest the Parliamentary election from the Colombo District.
