Cabinet Decides To Abolish 19A And Draft 20A

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to abolish the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

The decision was reached at the first Cabinet meeting of the new government, chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The Cabinet also decided to draft a new constitutional amendment in place of the 19th Amendment. The 19th Amendment to the Constitution saw the establishment of independent commissions and the Constituional Council.
