SLPP national list MP Jayantha Ketagoda has reportedly attempted to assualt Minister Wimal Weerawansa today within the parliamentary premises.

The attempted assault followed an argument over the dual citizenship clause in the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

Other MPs at the discussion, however, have interefered and prevented a brawl between the two Parliamentarians.

Weerawansa's party has vehemently opposed to the dual citizenship clause in the constitutional amendment. This has led to serious tensions between Weerawansa's party members and close allies of Basil Rajapaksa who is known to be a dual citizen.

Ketagoda is known to a staunch supporter of Basil Rajapaksa, the national organizer of the SLPP who is tipped to be appointed to Parliament if the 20th Amendment is adopted in Parliament.
