AG directs Acting IGP to probe into Aranthalawa massacre

The Attorney General has directed the Acting IGP to record a statement from the Aranthalawa massacre victim and commence criminal investigations, the AG’s Coordinating Officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.

She said the AG has also directed the Acting IGP to submit a progress report of investigation within two weeks.

On June 30, a Fundamental Rights application was filed with the Supreme Court against the Aranthalawa Massacre committed by the LTTE in 1987 by Venerable Andaulpatha Buddhasara Thero, a monk who survived the massacre.

The application requests an order be made on the Acting Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General to take immediate legal action against any surviving terrorist responsible for the attack which took place on the 02nd of June 1987.
