Former Elections Chief Mahinda Deshapriya Given New Position: Appointed New Chairman Of Delimitation Commission

Former Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has been appointed the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission.

Deshapriya's long stint at the Elections Department ended with the expiration of the National Elections Commission established under the provisions of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

The newly appointed five-member elections commission is chaired by Nimal Punchihewa, the former legal chief of the department.

Although Deshapriya was asked to continue as a member of the Elections Commission, he declined the offer. Deshpriya at that point he wanted to retire from government service and work in his private capacity for the betterment of society
