Making Derogatory Statement Against Judges And Lawyers: Ranjan Ramanayake Sentenced To 04 Years Of Rigorous Imprisonment

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ranjan Ramanayake was sentenced to 04 years Rigorous Imprisonment by the Supreme Court.

The SC delivered the ruling over the contempt of court case filed against the parliamentarian.

Ven. Magalkande Sudantha Thera and R.Sunil Perera, a retired Air Force Officer made complaints to the Supreme Court seeking a Contempt of Court action against Ramanayake for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the reputation of the judiciary and lawyers, during a press conference on August 21, 2017.

President’s Counsel M.A. Sumanthiran with Senior counsel Viran Corea appeared for the respondent while Additional Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanne with Senior State Counsel Suharshi Herath Jayaweera appeared for the Attorney General.
