Ajith Mannappruma Likely To Enter Parliament With Ranjan Losing Civic Rights: Presidential Pardon The Only Way Out?

Former MP Ajith Mannapperuma is likely to enter Parliament as Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake is expected to lose his civic rights with the conviction.

Mannapperuma, who contested the last general election under the Samagi Jana Balaegaya, ended as the next-in-line in the Gampaha district.

With Ramanayaka losing his parliamentary seat, Mannaperuma becomes eligible to take oaths as a parliamentarian.

The only way out for Ranjan Ramanayake at this point is to seek a presidential pardon. However, the MP has still not issued a public statement on wthether he would seek a presidential pardon.

Ramanayake was sentenced to 04 years Rigorous Imprisonment by the Supreme Court earlier today.The SC delivered the ruling over the contempt of court case filed against the parliamentarian.

Ven. Magalkande Sudantha Thera and R.Sunil Perera, a retired Air Force Officer made complaints to the Supreme Court seeking a Contempt of Court action against Ramanayake for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the reputation of the judiciary and lawyers, during a press conference on August 21, 2017.
